Ilkley Baptist Church have been able to assist the local Ilkley charity shop of Age UK.

Age UK's shop regularly have electrical items donated, but have not been able to sell any as the lack of a volunteer tester meant that they could not tell if the items were safe or not.

When David called in to introduce himself, he saw the sign looking for a tester.  Fortunately, David is not only a tester, but also teaches PAT testing!  One offer of a volunteer later and the Baptist church are helping Age UK.

When our Minister moved from Warrington Baptist Church to Radcliffe, three years ago, he found a church that needed volunteers trained in First Aid.  The local training companies were charging huge course fees.  Fortunately, David had been teaching First Aid for over six years, including spending a whole year teaching staff at the London Olympics, so he set up his own training company to provide cost price (not for profit) training to local churches and charities.

Following talks with the Yorkshire Baptist Association, we are pleased to be able to offer these courses to churches and charities in our area.  Our Emergency First Aid courses is just £35 - £115 cheaper than St John's Ambulance charge!  Our first course is on Thursday, 25th August.  For more details and further course dates please visit our specialises site for Churches Training, by clicking here.

On Wednesday, 20th July, 2016, 15 members of the Wednesday Fellowship group travelled to Crag House farm at Cookridge to visit the "Caring for Life" project, which is our Church nominated charity for 2016.

In very warm weather, we witnessed some of the great work that is carried out there with enthusiastic staff and their community.  Some of the services that Caring for Life provide include housing provision, and training in a variety of fields (please ignore the pun!) including adult literacy, horticulture, music, woodwork and catering.

After four years without a Minister, Saturday, 9th July, 2016, saw Ilkley Baptist Church full for the Induction of David Callander as our new Minister.  David was previously Minister in Training for two and a half years at Trinity Baptist Church, Radcliffe, Manchester, and completed his ministerial formation at the Northern Baptist College in Manchester.

Our photograph shows (left to right) Paul Chapman, who led the service; Rev David Callander, our new Minister; and Rev Mary Taylor, Regional Minister, Yorkshire Baptist Association, who officiated at the Induction and read the lesson from James 3:13-18.
